THOUGHTS
We assume that others can see what we see. We expect them to think what we think, believe what we believe and value what we value. Usually we find that it is easy to surround ourselves with like-minded people. All we have to do is keep well away from the folk who clearly disagree with us. Then, as long as we don't ask the rest too many questions, we can comfortably uphold the pretence.
What gives you the right to trust your own judgement? What if you have been given inaccurate information? How can you be sure that that you are not pursuing some subtle, additional, agenda hidden even from yourself? Is there something within you that feels stifled and stretched? Is your arm being twisted behind your back? Is the universe being a bully towards you? OK. Enough difficult questions.
We do not need to be reminded to breathe. Our bodies perform this essential function automatically - which is just as well - because few of us would last very long if we had to take conscious responsibility for the process. This is far from the only fundamental need that nature takes care of for us. Our need to be happy is an equally crucial part of the urge to survive.
