All the best organisations have hierarchies. This person is in charge of that person. That person is in charge of this one. There are ranks that can be risen to and titles that can be earned. Why are such marks of status so appealing to so many people? Because they pander to our passion to progress.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, what is a lot of knowledge? Harmless! The more you know, the more you understand, the less likely you are to do anything menacing or problematic because you are far too wise for that. Knowledge is power.
