How did things happen in the way that they did? And why? Though you pride yourself on your intellect and the accuracy of your memory, attempts to recollect a sequence of events are leaving you baffled. Surely there must have been some additional factor at play that has now been forgotten - else, why on earth was this decided and that done? And if you can't trust what you recall, how can you trust what you are about to do next?History is a child building a sand castle by the sea, and that child is the whole majesty of humanity's power in the world.' So said the wise old Greek, Heraclitus. But there is still a nice sense of perspective here, and it may prove very helpful for us to keep such a view in mind as we evaluate the importance of a plan or project which is perhaps taking more energy and concentration than it may deserve.
